UpCountry Brewing was established in 2016 by John Cochran and he is known in the craft beer industry since 1990's. UpCountry Brewing is currently found at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and this is a tap room, brewery and a music venue.
UpCountry Brewing can offer a range of beer styles, which would include saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts and many more. With approximately 20 of its own beers on tap, the brew house is thinking about making new beers for everybody to enjoy. UpCountry Brewing can offer goblets, pints, flights and a 22-ounce pour in the taproom. In addition, the brewery has beer to go for buy! Beer to go features a growler with your preference of beer, or cans of the Mangose, UpCo Lager, Hop Dread Red IPA, or Bogey Free Session IPA. Our extensive beer list is ideal for beer nerds everywhere. We value creativeness and daring recipes along with those go-to, easy drinking styles that any individual can enjoy. We have been infusing a lot of our brews with different syrups and flavors that could provide an extra creative kick. The brewery also has a Randall for infusions and a pilot brew system to help take the brewing a step further. We are all about experimenting and seeing what deliciousness we can produce using the knowledge from each brewer!
Together with providing delicious beer, UpCountry has red and white wines along with a full liquor bar of whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, and other spirits for everybody to enjoy. You don't need to be a hardcore beer aficionado to be able to enjoy our alcohol since we have selections for everybody. Apart from liquor, UpCountry can also provide signature cocktails that will rotate through the year depending on the season.
Together with brewing and selling delicious beer, UpCountry provides a full food menu featuring appetizers, pizzas, burgers, salads, hot dogs, soups, and even meals for dogs. If you love sweets, we also have different dessert options available for you. Our wide menu variety provides something for everybody! We are also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Whatever your dietary restrictions, we are going to do our best to accommodate you! We have plenty of selections for the whole family, along with kid-friendly and dog friendly menu for family and friends to enjoy.
Once you have worked up an appetite by hiking at the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the ideal place to talk with your friends and satisfy your hunger. After devouring your lunch, dinner, or snack, enjoy corn hole or one of the many activities we have scheduled at the brewery. Together with live music, we host a yoga class on Sunday mornings, music bingo on Wednesdays, and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry prefers a different local nonprofit to represent their 'Miracle Pint Night' each Thursday. UpCountry absolutely worked with different organizations before like Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry can be hosting the pint night with a unique glass that could change every week. Clients can purchase a featured beer and they can also keep the glass, with 10 percent profit going to the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is basically essential and these pint nights can be a way for the brewery to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing is always supporting local art and music in Asheville and the neighboring places like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist monthly with Bad Craft, an artist shop positioned in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery showcases one artist each month to show their artwork in UpCountry's taproom for display along with for buy. Together with a month long campaign, each artists gets a delegated Pint Night at the brewery along with at Bad Craft. The artist of the month can show and discuss their work and a pint glass feature the work of the artist can be available. UpCountry will invariably value the support of local music, art and beer and they'll continue to support all of these. Community and business relationships are incredibly essential to UpCountry's owner, John Cochran, along with the UpCountry staff, so the brewery looks forward to continue Pint Nights like these to support!
UpCountry brewing is proud to give live, local music every night. Once you've taken the family and friends to the tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, bring them down to UpCountry for an intimate night of Bluegrass, Open Mic, Music Bingo, or live local music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We are always proud to host solo musicians including Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We also love hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes! It's going to include several bands including The Paper Crowns, The Dirty Dead and Phuncle Sam. Other bands that we love to host include The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Wish to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
Aside from live music, it is not a secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans. The brewery is known for live streaming music, but it is extra focus on when Phish plays. They typically pull down the huge projection screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! Other live streams the brewery is really known for would include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry motivates Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

UpCountry's latest logo re-design has been high quality thanks to friends at Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg did an excellent job in developing the labeling artwork for Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, UpCo Mountain Lager and Hop Dread. There are several more canning designs on the way, so stay tuned for what UpCountry and Good Beer Hunting come up with!
For those who do not know, UpCountry Brewing's owner, John Cochran, is a DAWG Alum! UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. You have to keep an eye out because Cochran will undoubtedly wear his jersey.
