UpCountry Brewing began in 2016 by John Cochran, a craft beer industry veteran since the mid-1990's. John has worked many beer-related jobs in his 20+ years in brewing (including co-founding Terrapin Beer Company), and he is excited to obtain back to his roots by providing a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, good friends, and terrific beers.
UpCountry Brewing is known as a brewery, taproom and also a music venue located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We like to say that we brew our beer in "West, West Asheville," as it is the brewery located furthest west before leaving Beer City itself.
UpCountry Brewing can offer a range of beer styles, which would include saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts and much more. With approximately 20 of its own beers on tap, the brew house is considering making new beers for everybody to enjoy. UpCountry has worked with organizations such as Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry hosts the pint night with a unique glass that varies week by week. Buyers can purchase a featured beer and they can also keep the glass, with 10 percent profit going to the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is undoubtedly essential and the pint nights can be a great strategy to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing helps local art and music in Asheville and close, neighboring areas, such as Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
UpCountry always hosts a local artist monthly together with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery showcases one artist each month to show their artwork in UpCountry's taproom for display as well as for buy. We even host those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. These include bands like Phuncle Sam, The Paper Crowns, and The Dirty Dead. We have got other bands that we love to host like The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Wish to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
In addition to hosting live music, it is no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery has been known for live streaming music, but it is extra attention to when Phish plays. They pull down the big projection screen to stream the show and clear the chairs and tables in the music room so everybody can dance. Other live streams the brewery is known for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

UpCountry's latest logo re-design has been first class thanks to friends at Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an exceptional job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. You should stay tuned because there are several more canning designs that are on the way.
For those who don't know, UpCountry Brewing's owner, John Cochran, is a DAWG Alum! UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Keep an eye out, because Cochran will wear his jersey.
