UpCountry Brewing was first established in 2016 by craft beer industry veteran John Cochran. John has worked many beer-related jobs in his 20+ years in brewing (including co-founding Terrapin Beer Company), and he is excited to obtain back to his roots by providing a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, good friends, and fantastic beers.
UpCountry Brewing is known as a brewery, taproom and also a music venue found at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We would wish to claim that we're brewing our beer in "West, West Asheville," since it is the brewery found furthest west.

UpCountry certainly worked with different organizations before like Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry will host the pint night with a unique glass that can be changed every week. Clients will definitely purchase a featured beer and they can keep the glass. The 10 percent of the sales could be going to the nonprofit organizations. At UpCountry, community is essential, and these pint nights are only one way for the brewery to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing is definitely supporting local art and music in Asheville and all the neighboring areas including Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
UpCountry always hosts a local artist monthly together with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery will show off one artist each month to show their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for display and buy. In addition to a month long campaign, each artists gets a delegated Pint Night at the brewery as well as at Bad Craft. The artist of the month is there and able to discuss their work, and a pint glass featuring the artist's work is available for buy. UpCountry will always support the local music, art and beer in the area and will continue to do this in the foreseeable future. UpCountry brewing is proud to provide live, local music almost every night. If you are going to take your family and friends members to tourist spots including Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, you can always bring them to UpCountry for a night of Bluegrass, Music bingo, Open Mic, and live local music. We are always proud to host solo musicians including Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We are even hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. These include bands like Phuncle Sam, The Paper Crowns, and The Dirty Dead. We are also hosting other bands like Mama Danger, Cat and Crow, Astral Plainsmen, Sirius B., The Dirty Badgers, The Junk Drawer, The Free Wheelin' Mamas, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Cyndi Lou and The Wish to, Moonlight Street Folk and more.
In addition to hosting live music, it is no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery was noted for live streaming music, but it is sensitive to Phish plays. They pull down the big projection screen to stream the show and clear the chairs and tables in the music room so everybody can dance. Other live streams the brewery is noted for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry will always encourage Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy brews and boogie.

UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it is all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done a phenomenal job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. There are several more canning designs on the way, so stay tuned for what UpCountry and Good Beer Hunting come up with!
If you don't have any idea yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is definitely a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Cochran will definitely wear his jersey so you should keep an eye out.
