UpCountry Brewing was founded in 2016 by John Cochran, a craft beer industry veteran since the mid-1990's. John has a wide experience when it comes to beer-related jobs because he's been in this industry for more than 20 years so he is quite excited to go back to his roots by offering a local brewery focusing on great beer, fun times and good friends.
UpCountry Brewing is known as a brewery, taproom and also a music venue found at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We like to say that we brew our beer in "West, West Asheville," as it's the brewery located furthest west before leaving Beer City itself.
UpCountry Brewing offers a number of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. We've got over 20 types of beers on tap and we are still looking to produce new beers that everyone will undoubtedly enjoy. Apart from live music, we've got a yoga class during Sunday, music bingo on Wednesday and local pint nights on Thursdays.
UpCountry will choose a different local non profit org that can represent their Miracle Pint Night. UpCountry worked with different organizations before like Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School.
On Thursdays, UpCountry will host the pint night along with a unique glass that varies every week. Customers can certainly buy a featured beer and they could keep the glass. The 10 percent of the sales of that beer will go to the featured nonprofit organization. This is vitally important for UpCountry since they are actually using pint night to give back to the community.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing is always supporting local art and music in Asheville and the surrounding areas like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist monthly with Bad Craft, an artist shop positioned in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery can be featuring one artist a month to display their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for purchase and display. In addition to a month long campaign, each artists gets a designated Pint Night at the brewery as well as at Bad Craft. The artist of the month can present and also discuss their work along a pint glass featuring the work of the artist. Apart from hosting live music, it's already known that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans. The brewery was noted for live streaming music, but it's responsive to Phish plays. They pull down the big projector screen to stream the show and clear the chairs and tables in the music room so everyone can dance. Other live streams the brewery is really noted for could include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

UpCountry's latest logo re-design is the ideal thanks to the Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done a phenomenal job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. There are a lot of canning designs on the way so you have to stay tuned.
For those who do not know, UpCountry Brewing's owner, John Cochran, is a DAWG Alum! UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Cochran will undoubtedly wear his jersey so you should keep an eye out.
