The mission of UpCountry Brewing is to help create great experiences and share our passion in crafting beer, local music and more. We do this by focusing on the Carolina mountain region where we are presently residing.
Referred to as a community driven brewery, West Asheville taproom is the ideal place to plan your next adventure while catching up with your friends and family. With a large backyard, intimate setting indoors and also a big space for live local music, UpCountry Brewing can provide a wide range of beer styles while giving a brewpub food menu for the locals and visitors.
UpCountry Brewing started in 2016 by John Cochran, known as a craft beer industry veteran since the nineties. John has worked lots of beer-related jobs in his 20+ years in brewing (including co-founding Terrapin Beer Company), and he is excited to acquire back to his roots by offering a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, good friends, and wonderful beers.
UpCountry Brewing is a brewery, taproom, and music venue located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We like to state that we brew our beer in "West, West Asheville," as it is the brewery located furthest west before leaving Beer City itself.
UpCountry Brewing offers a wide variety of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. We've got over 20 kinds of beers on tap and we are still looking to create new beers that everyone will undoubtedly enjoy. UpCountry offers flights, goblets, pints, and even a twenty-two ounce pour in the taproom. In addition, the brewery has beer to go for purchase! Beer to go includes a growler with your choice of beer, or cans of the Mangose, UpCo Lager, Hop Dread Red IPA, or Bogey Free Session IPA. Together with the taproom, the beer of UpCountry may be seen in various towns and grocery stores, bottle shops and bars located in Asheville, along with the towns like Woodfin, Waynesville, Canton, Candler, Black Mountain, Arden, Hendersonville, Weaverville, and surrounding areas.
We also have our extensive beer list that's the best for beer nerds everywhere. We value creativity and daring recipes as well as those go-to, easy drinking styles that anyone can enjoy. We've recently been infusing some of our brews with various syrups and flavors for an extra creative kick. The brewery also contains a Randall for infusions and also a pilot brew system to take the brewing a step further. We're all about experimenting and seeing what deliciousness we can create using the knowledge from each brewer!
In addition to offering delicious beer, UpCountry has red and white wines as well as a full liquor bar of whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, and other spirits for everyone to enjoy. You don't need to be a hard core beer expert in order to enjoy our alcohol since we've got alternatives for everyone. In addition to liquor, UpCountry offers craft signature cocktails that rotate throughout the year based on the season.
Apart from selling and brewing beer, UpCountry could also offer you a full food menu that would include appetizers, pizzas, salads, soups, hotdogs, burgers and also meals for dogs. We also have dessert alternatives for the sweet tooths out there, too! Our wide menu variety offers something for everyone! We're also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Whatever your dietary restrictions, we will do our best to accommodate you! We've got plenty of alternatives for the entire family, as well as kid-friendly and dog friendly menu for friends and family to enjoy.
When you've worked up an appetite hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the best place to meet up with friends or family and satisfy your hunger. In addition to live music, we host a yoga class on Sunday mornings, music bingo on Wednesdays, and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Every month, UpCountry will be choosing a local nonprofit to represent their "Miracle Pint Night" every Thursday. UpCountry has worked with organizations like Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry hosts the pint night with a unique glass that varies week by week. Consumers will undoubtedly buy a featured beer and they can keep the glass. The 10 percent of the sales will be going to the nonprofit organizations. At UpCountry, community is undoubtedly important and the pint nights will be a great strategy to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing is always supporting local art and music in Asheville and the surrounding areas like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist monthly with Bad Craft, an artist shop located in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery will be featuring one artist a month to display their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for purchase and display. Apart from the month long campaign, the artist can also get a designated Pint Night at the brewery and Bad Craft. The artist of the month can present and discuss their work and a pint glass feature the work of the artist will be available. UpCountry values the support of local art, music, and beer, and will continue to demonstrate their support for all of these avenues of Asheville. Community and business relationships are incredibly important to UpCountry's owner, John Cochran, as well as the UpCountry staff, so the brewery anticipates continue Pint Nights like these to support!
UpCountry brewing is proud to provide live, local music every night. If you will take your friends and family members to tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, you can always bring them to UpCountry for a night of Bluegrass, Music bingo, Open Mic, and live local music. We love hosting solo musicians like Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We're even hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. These include bands like Phuncle Sam, The Paper Crowns, and The Dirty Dead. We're also hosting other bands like Mama Danger, Cat and Crow, Astral Plainsmen, Sirius B., The Dirty Badgers, The Junk Drawer, The Free Wheelin' Mamas, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Moonlight Street Folk and more.
In addition to hosting live music, it is no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery was recognized for live streaming music, but it is sensitive to Phish plays. They pull down the big projector screen to stream the show and clear the chairs and tables in the music room so everyone can dance. Other live streams the brewery is really recognized for could include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

We offer all of our music with NO cover charge. UpCountry does not want to limit the live music to have a cover charge, which is the reason why our events are free to public.

UpCountry Brewing is recognized for being family and kid friendly. We've got a big outdoor patio space with games meant for kids and a cornhole set for family and friends to enjoy. Our patio as well as courtyard are also dog friendly.

UpCountry Brewing can provide beer tours by special request and you can check our website for this. UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it is all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an exceptional job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. You must stay tuned as there are several more canning designs which are on the way.
For those who don't know, UpCountry Brewing's owner, John Cochran, is a DAWG Alum! UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Keep an eye out, because Cochran will wear his jersey.
UpCountry has hosted wedding rehearsals, private events, catering events, and birthday parties in the past. Plan yours here!
