UpCountry Brewing started in 2016 by John Cochran, who is known as a craft beer industry veteran since the mid 90s. John dealt with beer-related jobs in his more than Twenty years in brewing and he is very excited to obtain back to his root by supplying a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, great beers and good friends. UpCountry Brewing is found at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and it is a brewery, taproom and also a music venue.
UpCountry Brewing can offer lots of beer styles, that may include saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts and more. With twenty of its own beers on tap, the brew house is continuously thinking about and creating new beers for Asheville to enjoy. We also have our extensive beer list that is the best for beer nerds everywhere. We value creativity and daring recipes in addition to those go-to, easy drinking styles that anyone can enjoy. We've recently been infusing a lot of our brews with different syrups and flavors for an additional creative kick. The brewery also includes a Randall for infusions and also a pilot brew system to take the brewing a step further. If you love sweets, we've got different dessert alternatives available for you. Our wide menu variety offers something for everyone! We're also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Even if you are on a diet, we are going to do our best to accommodate you. We've got a lot of selections for the entire family and we are kid and dog friendly that you could enjoy.
When you have worked up an appetite by hiking at the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the best place to meet with your friends and satisfy your hunger. After eating your dinner, lunch or snack, you could try the corn hole or other activities that we have scheduled at the brewery. Aside from live music, we have a yoga class during Sunday, music bingo on Wednesday and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry will be selecting a local nonprofit to represent their "Miracle Pint Night" every Thursday. UpCountry has worked with organizations such as Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry will be hosting the pint night with a unique glass that will change every week. Customers will absolutely buy a featured beer and they can keep the glass. The 10 percent of the sales will be going to the nonprofit orgs. At UpCountry, community is important, and these pint nights are only one method for the brewery to provide back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing is always supporting local art and music in Asheville and the surrounding locations like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist of the month with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery will showcase one artist each month to display their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for display and purchase. Aside from the month long campaign, the artist can also get a designated Pint Night at the brewery and Bad Craft. The artist of the month is present and able to discuss their work, and a pint glass featuring the artist's work is available for purchase. UpCountry will invariably support the local music, art and beer in your community and will continue doing this in the foreseeable future. Community and business relationships are really important to UpCountry's owner, John Cochran, in addition to the UpCountry staff, so the brewery anticipates continue Pint Nights like these to support!
UpCountry brewing is always proud to offer live, local music on a nightly basis. We're even hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. It's going to include different bands such as The Paper Crowns, The Dirty Dead and Phuncle Sam. We're also hosting other bands like Mama Danger, Cat and Crow, Astral Plainsmen, Sirius B., The Dirty Badgers, The Junk Drawer, The Free Wheelin' Mamas, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Moonlight Street Folk and more.
Aside from hosting live music, it is already known that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans. The brewery is well-known for live streaming music, but is extra attentive to when Phish plays. They typically pull down the large projector screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! Other live streams the brewery is actually known for could include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it is all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an outstanding job with creating the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. There are a lot of canning designs on the way so you must stay tuned.
If you do not have any idea yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is actually a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has now become a go to spot in Asheville in watching the Georgia Bulldogs. Keep an eye out, because Cochran will wear his jersey.
