UpCountry Brewing was set up in 2016 by John Cochran, who is known as a craft beer industry veteran since the mid 90s. John worked with beer-related jobs in his more than 20 years in brewing and he is extremely excited to obtain back to his root by giving a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, terrific beers and good friends. UpCountry Brewing is located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and it's a brewery, taproom and also a music venue.

We've got dessert selections for the sweet tooths out there, too! Our wide menu variety provides something for everybody! We are also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Even when you are on a diet, we're going to do our best to accommodate you. We've got plenty of selections for the entire family, in addition to kid-friendly and dog friendly menu for family and friends to enjoy.
When you have worked up an appetite hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the ideal place to talk with family or friends and satisfy your hunger. After eating your dinner, lunch or snack, you may try the corn hole or other activities that we have scheduled at the brewery. Aside from live music, we have a yoga class during Sunday, music bingo on Wednesday and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry chooses a different local nonprofit to represent their 'Miracle Pint Night' each Thursday. UpCountry has worked with organizations such as Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry could be hosting the pint night with a unique glass that can change every week. Buyers purchase a featured beer and get to keep the glass, with ten percent of that beer's sales going towards the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is really essential and these pint nights could be a method for the brewery to provide back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing supports local art and music in Asheville and close, neighboring locations, such as Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist monthly with Bad Craft, an artist shop situated in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery could be exhibiting one artist a month to show their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for buy and display. Along with a month long campaign, each artists gets a delegated Pint Night at the brewery in addition to at Bad Craft. UpCountry brewing is proud to provide live, local music every night. Once you've taken the family and friends to the tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, bring them down to UpCountry for an intimate night of Bluegrass, Open Mic, Music Bingo, or live local music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We are always proud to host solo musicians such as Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We also love hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes! It will include different bands such as The Dirty Dead, The Paper Crowns and Phuncle Sam. Other bands that we love to host include The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Wish to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
Along with hosting live music, it is no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery was recognized for live streaming music, but it's responsive to Phish plays. They usually pull down the large projection screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! Other live streams the brewery is recognized for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

Good Beer Hunting
UpCountry's latest logo re-design is the perfect thanks to the Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg did an excellent job in creating the labeling artwork for Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, UpCo Mountain Lager and Hop Dread. There are a lot of canning designs on the way so you need to stay tuned.
For those who do not know, UpCountry Brewing's owner, John Cochran, is a DAWG Alum! UpCountry has now become a go to spot in Asheville in watching the Georgia Bulldogs. Keep an eye out, because Cochran will wear his jersey.
