UpCountry Brewing was founded in 2016 by John Cochran, a craft beer industry veteran since the mid-1990's. John already has a lot of beer-related jobs within his 20 years in brewing and he is very excited to obtain back to his roots by giving a small, local brewery focusing on good friends, wonderful beers and fun times.
UpCountry Brewing is a taproom, brewery and a music venue that you may find at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We'd want to say that we are brewing our beer in "West, West Asheville," as it is the brewery found furthest west.
UpCountry Brewing offers a number of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. We have over 20 types of beers on tap and we are still planning to produce new beers that everyone will definitely enjoy. UpCountry offers flights, goblets, pints, and even a twenty-two ounce pour in the taproom. Additionally, the brewery has beer to go for purchase! Beer to go includes a growler with your choice of beer, or cans of the Mangose, UpCo Lager, Hop Dread Red IPA, or Bogey Free Session IPA. Along with the taproom, the beer of UpCountry may be found in various towns and grocery stores, bottle shops and bars situated in Asheville, together with the towns like Woodfin, Waynesville, Canton, Candler, Black Mountain, Arden, Hendersonville, Weaverville, and surrounding areas.
Our extensive beer list is suitable for beer nerds everywhere. We value creativity more than anything else as well as daring recipes that everyone will definitely enjoy. We've lately been infusing some of our brews with various syrups and flavors for an extra creative kick. The brewery also has a Randall for infusions, as well as a pilot brew system to take brewing an extra step further. We even have dessert selections for the people who love sweets. Our wide menu variety offers something for everyone! We're also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Even when you're actually on a diet, we will try everything to accommodate you. We have plenty of selections for the whole family, as well as kid-friendly and dog friendly menu for friends and family to enjoy.
When you've worked up an appetite hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the perfect place to meet up with friends or family and satisfy your hunger. After you eat your dinner, lunch or snack, you may always try our corn hole and other activities scheduled at the brewery. Aside from live music, we've got a yoga class during Sunday, music bingo on Wednesday and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry can be selecting a local nonprofit to represent their "Miracle Pint Night" every Thursday. UpCountry has worked with organizations including Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry will host the pint night with a unique glass that could be changed every week. Consumers buy a featured beer and get to keep the glass, with ten percent of that beer's sales going towards the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is basically important and these pint nights can be a method for the brewery to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing helps local art and music in Asheville and close, surrounding areas, including Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist of the month with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery showcases one artist each month to display their artwork in UpCountry's taproom for display as well as for purchase. In addition to a month long campaign, each artists gets a designated Pint Night at the brewery as well as at Bad Craft. The artist of the month is present and able to discuss their work, and a pint glass featuring the artist's work is available for purchase. UpCountry values the support of local art, music, and beer, and will continue to show their support for all of these avenues of Asheville. Community and business relationships are important for John Cochran, the owner of UpCountry, together with the support of the staff so the brewery will invariably look forward to continue the Pint Nights.
UpCountry brewing is proud to offer live, local music every night. Once you've taken the friends and family to the tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, bring them down to UpCountry for an intimate night of Bluegrass, Open Mic, Music Bingo, or live local music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We love hosting solo musicians like Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We are even hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. It is going to include various bands including The Paper Crowns, The Dirty Dead and Phuncle Sam. We've got other bands that we love to host like The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
Aside from hosting live music, it is already known that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans. The brewery is well-known for live streaming music, but is extra attentive to when Phish plays. They typically pull down the big projector screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! The other known live streams that the brewery is focusing on are Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

All of our music may have no cover charge. UpCountry doesn't want to limit live music to having a cover charge, which is why all of our events are free to the public.

UpCountry Brewing is recognized for being family and kid friendly. We have a massive outdoor patio space with games for the kiddos as well as a cornhole set for family and friends to enjoy. Our patio and courtyard are dog friendly, so bring the pup too!

UpCountry Brewing values being that brewery nested in West Asheville for locals to enjoy as well as a stop right off of Interstate 40 for tourists and visitors. It is found on Haywood Road in West Asheville and it is surrounded by thousands of neighbors and are very proud to be their "neighborhood bar" for parties, gatherings or simply having beer with friends.

UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it is all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an exceptional job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. You have to stay tuned as there are several more canning designs that are on the way.
If you do not know yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. You have to keep an eye out because Cochran will definitely wear his jersey.
UpCountry has been hosting wedding rehearsals, private events, catering events, birthday parties and more in the past. Plan yours here!
