UpCountry Brewing was first set up in 2016 by craft beer industry veteran John Cochran. John has worked lots of beer-related jobs in his 20+ years in brewing (including co-founding Terrapin Beer Company), and he is excited to acquire back to his roots by offering a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, good friends, and wonderful beers.
UpCountry Brewing is a brewery, taproom, and music venue located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We may want to claim that we are brewing our beer in "West, West Asheville," since it is the brewery found furthest west.
UpCountry Brewing can offer lots of beer styles, that could include saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts and more. We've got over 20 types of beers on tap and we are still planning to create new beers that everyone will undoubtedly enjoy. When you've worked up an appetite hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the ideal place to meet up with friends or family and satisfy your hunger. After you eat your dinner, lunch or snack, you could always try our corn hole and other activities scheduled at the brewery. Apart from live music, we have a yoga class during Sunday, music bingo on Wednesday and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Every month, UpCountry can choose a local nonprofit to represent their "Miracle Pint Night" every Thursday. UpCountry already worked various organizations like Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry can be hosting the pint night with a unique glass that can change every week. Consumers buy a featured beer and get to keep the glass, with ten percent of that beer's sales going towards the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is undoubtedly important and the pint nights can be an excellent strategy to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing helps local art and music in Asheville and close, surrounding areas, like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist of the month with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery showcases one artist every month to display their artwork in UpCountry's taproom for display as well as for purchase. In addition to a month long campaign, each artists gets a designated Pint Night at the brewery as well as at Bad Craft. The artist of the month can display and discuss their work and a pint glass feature the work of the artist can be available. UpCountry brewing is proud to provide live, local music every night. We even host those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. It is going to include different bands like The Dirty Dead, The Paper Crowns and Phuncle Sam. We're also hosting other bands like Mama Danger, Cat and Crow, Astral Plainsmen, Sirius B., The Dirty Badgers, The Junk Drawer, The Free Wheelin' Mamas, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Moonlight Street Folk and more.
Apart from live music, it's not a secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans. The brewery was known for live streaming music, but it's responsive to Phish plays. They typically pull down the big projector screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! Other live streams the brewery is known for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry will always encourage Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy brews and boogie.

Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an exceptional job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. You need to stay tuned as there are several more canning designs which are on the way.
For those who don't know, UpCountry Brewing's owner, John Cochran, is a DAWG Alum! UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Keep an eye out, because Cochran will wear his jersey.
