UpCountry Brewing started in 2016 by John Cochran and he is known in the craft beer industry since 1990s. John actually dealt with beer-related jobs in his 20 years in brewing and he is extremely thrilled to go back to his roots by offering a small, local brewery centering on fun times, wonderful beers and buddies. UpCountry Brewing may be located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and it is a brewery, taproom and also a music venue.
UpCountry Brewing offers a number of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. With twenty of its own beers on tap, the brew house is continually thinking up and creating new beers for Asheville to enjoy. We've recently been infusing some of our brews with several syrups and flavors for an extra creative kick. The brewery also has a Randall for infusions, along with a pilot brew system to take brewing an extra step further. We're all about experimenting and seeing what deliciousness we can create using the knowledge from each brewer!
Together with offering delicious beer, UpCountry has red and white wines along with a full liquor bar of whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, and other spirits for everyone to enjoy. You don't have to be a hard-core beer expert to enjoy alcohol at our place-we've got selections for everyone! Together with liquor, UpCountry offers craft signature cocktails that rotate throughout the year according to the season.
Together with brewing and selling delicious beer, UpCountry offers a full food menu featuring appetizers, pizzas, burgers, salads, hot dogs, soups, and even meals for dogs. We have got dessert selections for the sweet tooths out there, too! Our wide menu variety offers something for everyone! We're also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Whatever your dietary restrictions, we are going to do our best to accommodate you! We have plenty of selections for the whole family, along with kid-friendly and dog friendly menu for friends and family to enjoy.
Once you have worked up an appetite by hiking at the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the ideal place to meet with your friends and satisfy your hunger. After devouring your lunch, dinner, or snack, enjoy corn hole or one of the lots of activities we have scheduled at the brewery. Together with live music, we host a yoga class on Sunday mornings, music bingo on Wednesdays, and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry can be choosing a local nonprofit to represent their "Miracle Pint Night" every Thursday. UpCountry has worked with organizations including Friends of the Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry hosts the pint night with a unique glass that varies week by week. Consumers buy a featured beer and get to keep the glass, with ten percent of that beer's sales going towards the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is important, and these pint nights are just one way for the brewery to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing supports local art and music in Asheville and close, surrounding places, including Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
In house, UpCountry hosts a local artist monthly with Bad Craft, an artist shop situated in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery showcases one artist every month to display their artwork in UpCountry's taproom for display along with for purchase. Together with a month long campaign, each artists gets a designated Pint Night at the brewery along with at Bad Craft. The artist of the month is present and able to discuss their work, and a pint glass featuring the artist's work is available for purchase. UpCountry will invariably support the local music, art and beer in the area and will continue to do this in the future. Community and business relationships are really important to UpCountry's owner, John Cochran, along with the UpCountry staff, so the brewery looks forward to continue Pint Nights like these to support!
UpCountry brewing is proud to offer live, local music almost every night. Once you've taken the friends and family to the tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, bring them down to UpCountry for an intimate night of Bluegrass, Open Mic, Music Bingo, or live local music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We love hosting solo musicians like Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We also love hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes! These include bands like Phuncle Sam, The Paper Crowns, and The Dirty Dead. Other bands that we love to host include The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
Together with hosting live music, it's no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery has been known for live streaming music, but it is extra attention to when Phish plays. They generally pull down the huge projector screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! Other live streams the brewery is recognized for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

We offer all our music with no cover charge. UpCountry does not want to limit live music to having a cover charge, which is why all of our events are free to the public.

UpCountry Brewing values being family and kid friendly. We have a huge outdoor patio space with games for the kiddos along with a cornhole set for family and friends to enjoy. Our patio and courtyard are dog friendly, so bring the pup too!
At UpCountry Brewing, we always think that beer and outdoors are connected. UpCountry values the outdoor activities that Asheville has to offer, everything from floating down the river to tackling a strenuous mountain trail. UpCountry Brewing offers beer tours by special request. Just check our website for information! Together with beer tastings and a tour of the new taproom, you are going to receive a guided tour of the brew house and along with a 'Beer 101' crash course in the way to make and produce beer. Good Beer Hunting
UpCountry's latest logo re-design has been high quality thanks to friends at Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an outstanding job with developing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. There are several more canning designs on the way, so stay tuned for what UpCountry and Good Beer Hunting come up with!
If you do not know yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Keep an eye out, because Cochran will wear his jersey.
