UpCountry Brewing was founded in 2016 by John Cochran, a craft beer industry veteran since the mid-1990's. John already has plenty of beer-related jobs within his 20 years in brewing and he is quite excited to acquire back to his roots by supplying a small, local brewery focusing on good friends, wonderful beers and fun times.
UpCountry Brewing is known as a brewery, taproom and also a music venue located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We like to say that we brew our beer in "West, West Asheville," as it's the brewery located furthest west before leaving Beer City itself.
UpCountry Brewing offers numerous types of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. Additionally, the brewery has beer to go for purchase! Beer to go features a growler with your choice of beer, or cans of the Mangose, UpCo Lager, Hop Dread Red IPA, or Bogey Free Session IPA. UpCountry undoubtedly worked with various organizations before like Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry will be hosting the pint night with a unique glass that can change every week. Consumers will absolutely buy a featured beer and they can keep the glass. The 10 percent of the sales will be going to the nonprofit orgs. At UpCountry, community is important, and these pint nights are only one method for the brewery to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing helps local art and music in Asheville and close, surrounding areas, such as Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
UpCountry always hosts a local artist monthly along with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery will showcase one artist each month to display their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for display and purchase. Apart from a month long campaign, every artist will get a designated Pint Night at the brewery and Bad Craft. The artist of the month can present and discuss their work and a pint glass feature the work of the artist will be available. UpCountry will invariably value the support of local music, art and beer and they will continue to support all of these. Community and business relationships are really important to UpCountry's owner, John Cochran, as well as the UpCountry staff, so the brewery looks forward to continue Pint Nights like these to support!
UpCountry brewing is always proud to offer live, local music on a nightly basis. We are even hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. It'll include several bands such as The Paper Crowns, The Dirty Dead and Phuncle Sam. We are also hosting other bands like Mama Danger, Cat and Crow, Astral Plainsmen, Sirius B., The Dirty Badgers, The Junk Drawer, The Free Wheelin' Mamas, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Moonlight Street Folk and more.
Apart from live music, it's not a secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans. The brewery has been known for live streaming music, but it's extra attention to when Phish plays. They typically pull down the big projector screen to stream each show and clear out the chairs and tables in the music room so that Asheville can dance it out! Other live streams the brewery is known for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it's all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg did an excellent job in designing the labeling artwork for Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, UpCo Mountain Lager and Hop Dread. You have to stay tuned because there are several more canning designs which are on the way.
If you don't know yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. Cochran will absolutely wear his jersey so you must keep an eye out.
