As a community driven brewery, our West Asheville taproom is the ideal location to plan your next adventure while catching up with family and friends. With a large backyard, intimate indoor seating, and a generous space for live local music, UpCountry Brewing serves a wide variety of craft beer styles while giving a full brewpub food menu for locals and visitors alike.
UpCountry Brewing was founded in 2016 by John Cochran, a craft beer industry veteran since the mid-1990's. John has worked many beer-related jobs in his 20+ years in brewing (including co-founding Terrapin Beer Company), and he is excited to obtain back to his roots by providing a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, good friends, and wonderful beers.
UpCountry Brewing is a taproom, brewery and a music venue that you can find at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville. We would want to say that we are brewing our beer in "West, West Asheville," since it is the brewery found furthest west.
UpCountry Brewing offers a wide variety of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. With twenty of its own beers on tap, the brew house is constantly thinking up and creating new beers for Asheville to enjoy. UpCountry Brewing will offer goblets, pints, flights and a 22-ounce pour in the taproom. Also, the brewery has beer to go ready for purchase. Beer to go would include a growler with your choice of beer or cans of the Mangose, UpCo Lager, Hop Dread Red IPA, or Bogey Free Session IPA. In addition to availability in the taproom, UpCountry's beer may be found all over town in various grocery stores, bottle shops, and bars in Asheville, including towns like Woodfin, Waynesville, Canton, Candler, Black Mountain, Arden, Hendersonville, Weaverville, and surrounding areas.
We've got our extensive beer list that's great for beer nerds everywhere. We always value creativity and daring recipes along with those go-to, easy drinking styles that everyone would enjoy. We are infusing a lot of our brews with various syrups and flavors that will offer an extra creative kick. The brewery also includes a Randall for infusions and also a pilot brew system to take the brewing one step further. We are all about experimenting and seeing what deliciousness we can create using the knowledge from each brewer!
In addition to providing delicious beer, UpCountry has red and white wines as well as a full liquor bar of whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, and other spirits for everyone to enjoy. We've got choices for everyone so you don't need to be a full on beer expert in order to enjoy our alcohol. Apart from liquor, UpCountry can offer signature cocktails that will rotate throughout the year based on the season.
Apart from selling and brewing beer, UpCountry might also give you a full food menu that could include appetizers, pizzas, salads, soups, hot dogs, burgers and also meals for dogs. We also have dessert choices for the sweet tooths out there, too! Our wide menu variety offers something for everyone! We're also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Even if you're on a diet, we are going to do our best to accommodate you. We've got plenty of choices for the entire family, as well as kid-friendly and dog friendly menu for friends and family to enjoy.
When you've worked up an appetite hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the best place to meet up with friends or family and satisfy your hunger. In addition to live music, we host a yoga class on Sunday mornings, music bingo on Wednesdays, and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry prefers a different local nonprofit to represent their 'Miracle Pint Night' each Thursday. UpCountry certainly worked with different organizations before like Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry will host the pint night with a unique glass which will be changed every week. Consumers buy a featured beer and get to keep the glass, with ten percent of that beer's sales going towards the featured nonprofit. At UpCountry, community is basically important and these pint nights can be a method for the brewery to give back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing helps local art and music in Asheville and close, surrounding areas, like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
UpCountry always hosts a local artist monthly together with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery showcases one artist every month to display their artwork in UpCountry's taproom for display as well as for purchase. Apart from the month long campaign, the artist will also get a designated Pint Night at the brewery and Bad Craft. The artist of the month can present and also discuss their work along a pint glass featuring the work of the artist. UpCountry values the support of local art, music, and beer, and will continue to show their support for all of these avenues of Asheville. Community and business relationships are important for John Cochran, the owner of UpCountry, together with the support of the staff so the brewery will always look forward to continue the Pint Nights.
UpCountry brewing is always proud to offer live, local music on a nightly basis. Once you've taken the friends and family to the tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, bring them down to UpCountry for an intimate night of Bluegrass, Open Mic, Music Bingo, or live local music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We are always proud to host solo musicians like Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We are even hosting those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. It is going to include various bands like The Paper Crowns, The Dirty Dead and Phuncle Sam. We also have other bands that we love to host like The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
In addition to hosting live music, it is no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery was noted for live streaming music, but it is responsive to Phish plays. They pull down the big projector screen to stream the show and clear the chairs and tables in the music room so everyone can dance. The other known live streams that the brewery is focusing on are Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry will always encourage Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy brews and boogie.

All of our music will have no cover charge. UpCountry does not want to limit the live music to have a cover charge, which is the reason why our events are free to public.

UpCountry Brewing is well noted for being family and kid friendly. We've got a big outdoor patio space with games designed for children and a cornhole set for family and friends to enjoy. Our patio and courtyard are dog friendly, so bring the pup too!

Good Beer Hunting
UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it is all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg have done an outstanding job with designing the labeling artwork for UpCountry's Hop Dread, Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, and UpCo Mountain Lager. There are tons of canning designs on the way so you must stay tuned.
If you don't have any idea yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is definitely a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has become a go-to spot in Asheville for watching the Georgia Bulldogs games. You need to keep an eye out because Cochran will definitely wear his jersey.
UpCountry has hosted wedding rehearsals, private events, catering events, and birthday parties in the past. Plan yours here!
