UpCountry Brewing started in 2016 by John Cochran, who is known as a craft beer industry veteran since the mid 90s. John worked with beer-related jobs in his more than 20 years in brewing and he is extremely excited to get back to his root by providing a small, local brewery with a spotlight on fun times, wonderful beers and good friends. UpCountry Brewing is found at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and it is known as a music venue, brewery and a tap room.
UpCountry Brewing offers numerous types of beer styles, including saisons, IPAs, sours, porters, stouts, and more. We have over 20 types of beers on tap and we are still planning to create new beers that everyone will definitely enjoy. UpCountry Brewing can provide flights, pints, goblets and also a 22-once pour in the taproom. Additionally, the brewery has beer to go for purchase! Beer to go features a growler with your selection of beer, or cans of the Mangose, UpCo Lager, Hop Dread Red IPA, or Bogey Free Session IPA. Together with the taproom, the beer of UpCountry may be seen in different towns and grocery stores, bottle shops and bars situated in Asheville, along with the towns like Woodfin, Waynesville, Canton, Candler, Black Mountain, Arden, Hendersonville, Weaverville, and surrounding locations.
Our extensive beer list is perfect for beer nerds everywhere. We value creativity more than anything else in addition to daring recipes that everyone will definitely enjoy. We've lately been infusing some of our brews with different syrups and flavors for an additional creative kick. The brewery also has a Randall for infusions and a pilot brew system to help take the brewing a step further. We are all about experimenting and seeing what deliciousness we can create using the knowledge from each brewer!
Apart from this, we are providing delicious beer and UpCountry provides red and white wines and also a full liquor bar of vodka, whiskey, gin, tequila and others. We have alternatives for everyone so you don't need to be a full-on beer expert in order to enjoy our alcohol. Along with liquor, UpCountry offers craft signature cocktails that rotate throughout the year according to the season.
Along with brewing and selling delicious beer, UpCountry offers a full food menu featuring appetizers, pizzas, burgers, salads, hot dogs, soups, and even meals for dogs. We also have dessert alternatives for the sweet tooths out there, too! Our wide menu variety offers something for everyone! We're also vegan and gluten-free friendly. Even when you're on a diet, we are going to do our best to accommodate you. We have a lot alternatives for the whole family and we even have kid-friendly and dog-friendly meals.
When you have worked up an appetite by hiking at the Blue Ridge Parkway or floating down the French Broad River, UpCountry is the perfect place to meet with your friends and satisfy your hunger. After you eat your dinner, lunch or snack, you could always try our corn hole and other activities scheduled at the brewery. Along with live music, we host a yoga class on Sunday mornings, music bingo on Wednesdays, and local pint nights on Thursdays.
Each month, UpCountry chooses a different local nonprofit to represent their 'Miracle Pint Night' each Thursday. UpCountry already worked different organizations like Smokies, Habitat for Humanity, LEAF, Asheville Humane Society, and The Rainbow School. On Thursdays, UpCountry can be hosting the pint night with a unique glass that could change every week. Consumers will definitely buy a featured beer and they could keep the glass. The ten percent of the sales can be going to the nonprofit organizations. At UpCountry, community is important, and these pint nights are just one method for the brewery to provide back.
Local Art And Music
UpCountry Brewing is always supporting local art and music in Asheville and the surrounding locations like Black Mountain, Woodfin, East Asheville, and the River Arts District.
UpCountry always hosts a local artist monthly along with Bad Craft, an artist shop in Black Mountain, NC. The brewery can be presenting one artist a month to display their artwork at the taproom of UpCountry for purchase and display. Along with a month long campaign, each artists gets a designated Pint Night at the brewery in addition to at Bad Craft. The artist of the month can present and discuss their work and a pint glass feature the work of the artist can be available. UpCountry values the support of local art, music, and beer, and will continue to show their support for all of these avenues of Asheville. Community and business relationships are important for John Cochran, the owner of UpCountry, along with the support of the staff so the brewery will always anticipate continue the Pint Nights.
UpCountry brewing is proud to provide live, local music every night. Once you've taken the friends and family to the tourist spots like Biscuit Head, Nine Mile, and Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack, bring them down to UpCountry for an intimate night of Bluegrass, Open Mic, Music Bingo, or live local music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We like to host solo musicians like Dave Desmelik, Anya Hinkle, Old Sap, Stephen Horvath, Robin Lewis, Nikki Forbes, Scott Stetson, and more. We even host those Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead Tributes. It'll include different bands like The Dirty Dead, The Paper Crowns and Phuncle Sam. Other bands that we love to host include The Junk Drawer, Mama Danger, the Free Wheelin' Mamas, Cat and Crow, Kaizen with Jeff Sipe, Astral Plainsmen, Cyndi Lou and The Want to, Sirius B., Moonlight Street Folk, The Dirty Badgers, and several more.
Along with hosting live music, it is no secret that UpCountry Brewing is a bunch of hardcore Phish fans! The brewery was known for live streaming music, but it is sensitive to Phish plays. They pull down the large projector screen to stream the show and clear the chairs and tables in the music room so everyone can dance. Other live streams the brewery is known for include Widespread Panic, Dead and Co., and Umphrey's McGee. UpCountry encourages Asheville to bring some friends, enjoy some brews, and boogie!

All of our music could have no cover charge. UpCountry does not want to limit live music to having a cover charge, which is why all of our events are free to the public.

Good Beer Hunting
UpCountry's latest logo re-design have been the best and it is all thanks to Good Beer Hunting in Chicago, IL. Designers Michael Kiser, Cooper Foszcz, and Mike Duesenberg did an excellent job in creating the labeling artwork for Mangose, Isoprene Hazy IPA, UpCo Mountain Lager and Hop Dread. You should stay tuned because there are several more canning designs that are on the way.
If you don't have any idea yet, the owner of UpCountry Brewing is really a DAWG Alum. UpCountry has now become a go to spot in Asheville in watching the Georgia Bulldogs. Cochran will definitely wear his jersey so you need to keep an eye out.
