One of Upcountry's most popular beers is the sCAMPer IPA. We refer to this one as an "old school" IPA. The sCAMPer is approachable and easy drinking with a great floral aroma and hints of pine and citrus. It's a great tasting beer and it has great art on the can. And people always want to know the story behind that art with the awesome van.
The sCAMPer IPA is a collaboration beer with Scamper Van out of Atlanta. I first met David Clapper and Eric "Dutch" Van de Steeg, the founders of Scamper Van, a couple of years ago through a mutual friend, Daniel Collins. He knew my wife and I loved camping and the outdoors, as do Dave and Dutch. We met with them and really hit it off. Turns out at one point a few year back Dave had tried to rent a campervan for a trip with friends. And could not find one. When he saw this opportunity in the outdoors industry in the SE, he reached out to his friend Dutch and they started Scamper Van in Atlanta. You can listen to their full story here. (Be sure to listen for the horror story about their original old school VW purchase. It's right around the 16 minute mark.)
After growing the fleet to 6 vans, Dave and Dutch decided to base vans 7 and 8 at UpCountry Brewing. So now you can get your Scamper fix in Asheville! These babies stay rented all the time so if you want one for your upcoming vacation, be sure to reserve it now. Here is the info on how to rent one for your own glamping vacay.
Now it's time for the official launch party of Scamper Van in Asheville. Be sure to join us Tuesday October 8th to meet the Scamper Van crew, crawl through the vans and kick the tires. Get all your questions answered and register to WIN A FREE WEEKLONG SCAMPER VAN RENTAL!!!!!! We will also have some great rock n' roll provided by Pleasure Chest, German street food from The Doner, and $2 off sCAMPer IPA all day long!
We can't wait to celebrate Van Life, local music, and craft beer with you.
Cheers, Asheville! We've released three new beers within the last two weeks alone. This calls for celebration, because we now have eighteen of our own beers on tap. Our brewers have been channeling their creativity with different beer recipes and styles for all to enjoy.
The three new beers with descriptions are listed below:
Simple Man Table Bier
This opaque, yeast-forward beer is a perfect palate cleanser, providing refreshing notes of lemon curd and pepper followed by a nice wheat backbone. Simple, yet satisfying. Extra points if you can guess the name reference! 4.0% ABV, 12 IBU.
Another Case of Brutality
Make way, there’s a new champagne of beers. This Brut IPA is bone dry and showcases fruity hop notes from Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria, and Mosaic varieties while keeping the bitterness low. So throw on your tuxedo T-shirt and celebrate with this bubbly concoction! 7.1% ABV, 20 IBU.
Bob’s Berliner Weiss
This effervescent, tart beer is perfect for these hot and humid summer days. Coming in at 4.2% ABV, the light body and acidic finish is refreshing to the palate. Go the extra mile and try it with one of our four house-made syrups in traditional German fashion. Our syrups include Blueberry Thyme, Lemon Ginger, Honey Ginger, and Grapefruit Rosemary recipes. 4.2% ABV, 10 IBU.
These three beer releases are just a taste of what our owner, John Cochran, has in mind for the brewery’s future. “My goal is to have twenty taps dedicated to in-house beers with varying styles,” says Cochran. “I want the brewers to really get creative and see the different recipes we can come up with that gets Beer City excited about, well, beer.”
Other beer styles at our place include a variety of saisons, IPAs, sours, stouts, and more for Asheville to enjoy. Come give these beers a try and let us know what you think! We're located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and provide a full menu featuring craft beer, cocktails, and food.
Cheers, Asheville! We've released two new beers this week: a Belgian Tripel and a new Pale Ale. The taproom now officially has twenty of our own beers on tap.
The new brews with descriptions are listed below:
Tripel Lindy--9.5% ABV, 20 IBU
This Belgian Tripel is a malt forward and creamy brew. It exudes notes of banana and peppery clove in each sip. Try it today, or get no respect, no respect! Stay tuned for a red wine, barrel aged version. 9.5% ABV, 20 IBU.
Even Flow Pale Ale--5.7% ABV, 38 IBU
This smooth, light bodied pale ale combines Centennial and Cascade to impart an herbal, piney character balanced with light grapefruit undertones. We dry-hopped with a mixture of Cascade and Idaho 007. Have a sip and let thoughts arrive like butterflies…
“We’ve really ramped up the creativity and production in the brew house,” says UpCountry Brewing’s owner, John Cochran. “We’ll be releasing at least one new beer each Wednesday for the next several weeks. This week was a bonus with two!”
Keep a lookout every week for even more beer releases from the taproom. In the meantime, stop by our place to try these two brews and let us know what you think!
Hey Asheville! We've officially tapped the keg on our first California Common style beer.
Common Feel The Noise! 5.7% ABV, 29 IBU Our California Common is fermented on lager yeast to provide a rich, bready malt character paired with a dry finish. Late hopped with Cascade, this brew showcases flavors of pine and citrus with a floral aroma. “Our beer creation and production is at an all time high,” says UpCountry Brewing’s Owner, John Cochran. “I hope Asheville gets in to taste this California Common, the brew team continues to do a fantastic job.”
In case you haven't heard: we'll be tapping a new beer on Wednesdays for the next several weeks. Stay tuned for what else we've got planned for our tap list lineup!
