UpCountry welcomes The Döner!

We are proud to announce UpCountry Brewing has partnered with The Döner Kebabs and Falafels to offer up their tasty food at our Asheville taproom. What's a Döner, you ask? At it's essence, a Döner is made with seasoned meat shaved from a vertical rotisserie, a style of cooking that dates back to the Ottomans. Similar to the Greek Gyro, Döner Kebabs are highly popular as a late-night snack or quick meal on the go throughout much of Europe. In fact, the Döner sandwich is more popular in Germany than hamburgers, pizzas, and amazingly - the bratwurst! The Wall Street Journal went so far as to say the Döner is to Berlin what the pizza is to New York. High praise indeed!

Mitchell Marecki and Rebecca Hanser are the young couple behind The Döner Kebabs and Falafels. They met while studying Hospitality Managment in Switzerland and spent time living in Berlin, Germany. This is where they fell in love with this filling sandwich, on a street corner, after an evening with friends and a few beers. After moving to Asheville the couple began looking for the opportunity to open their own restaurant and fortunately they decided to introduce WNC to the Döner sandwich. They opened in the Asheville Mall in late 2016, which was ironically the exact time UpCountry Brewing was launching in West Asheville. After multiple requests from their raving fans for a more convenient location to acquire their Döner fix, The Döner Kebabs and Falafels is now available in West Asheville at the UpCountry Brewing taproom.

Featuring many vegan and gluten-free options, the menu has some additions to the regular fare from the first location. They will be offering some classic German bites, like that bratwurst mentioned earlier and a chicken schnitzel sandwich. Along with that, they will be taking advantage of our wood-fired pizza oven with flaky thin crust "Turkish style pizzas" called Pide (pronounced: Pea-Day).  Of course, the main feature is still the Döner Kebab. Made with beef & lamb, or chicken, the Döner sandwich is great for pairing with the myriad of beers offered by UpCountry Brewing.

Three New Beers On Tap!

Cheers, Asheville! We've released three new beers within the last two weeks alone. This calls for celebration, because we now have eighteen of our own beers on tap. Our brewers have been channeling their creativity with different beer recipes and styles for all to enjoy.

The three new beers with descriptions are listed below:

Simple Man Table Bier
This opaque, yeast-forward beer is a perfect palate cleanser, providing refreshing notes of lemon curd and pepper followed by a nice wheat backbone. Simple, yet satisfying. Extra points if you can guess the name reference! 4.0% ABV, 12 IBU.

Another Case of Brutality
Make way, there’s a new champagne of beers. This Brut IPA is bone dry and showcases fruity hop notes from Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria, and Mosaic varieties while keeping the bitterness low. So throw on your tuxedo T-shirt and celebrate with this bubbly concoction! 7.1% ABV, 20 IBU.

Bob’s Berliner Weiss
This effervescent, tart beer is perfect for these hot and humid summer days. Coming in at 4.2% ABV, the light body and acidic finish is refreshing to the palate. Go the extra mile and try it with one of our four house-made syrups in traditional German fashion. Our syrups include Blueberry Thyme, Lemon Ginger, Honey Ginger, and Grapefruit Rosemary recipes. 4.2% ABV, 10 IBU.

These three beer releases are just a taste of what our owner, John Cochran, has in mind for the brewery’s future. “My goal is to have twenty taps dedicated to in-house beers with varying styles,” says Cochran. “I want the brewers to really get creative and see the different recipes we can come up with that gets Beer City excited about, well, beer.”

Other beer styles at our place include a variety of saisons, IPAs, sours, stouts, and more for Asheville to enjoy. Come give these beers a try and let us know what you think! We're located at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville and provide a full menu featuring craft beer, cocktails, and food.

The new brews with descriptions are listed below:

Tripel Lindy--9.5% ABV, 20 IBU
This Belgian Tripel is a malt forward and creamy brew. It exudes notes of banana and peppery clove in each sip. Try it today, or get no respect, no respect! Stay tuned for a red wine, barrel aged version. 9.5% ABV, 20 IBU.

Even Flow Pale Ale--5.7% ABV, 38 IBU
This smooth, light bodied pale ale combines Centennial and Cascade to impart an herbal, piney character balanced with light grapefruit undertones. We dry-hopped with a mixture of Cascade and Idaho 007. Have a sip and let thoughts arrive like butterflies…

“We’ve really ramped up the creativity and production in the brew house,” says UpCountry Brewing’s owner, John Cochran. “We’ll be releasing at least one new beer each Wednesday for the next several weeks. This week was a bonus with two!”
