New On Tap: Brown Eyed Girl Brown Ale

We're excited to have a new brew on tap just in time for the colder weather: our 'Brown Eyed Girl' Brown Ale. Named after the infamous song by Van Morrison, this brew is just as addictive as the tune. Mahogany in color, this is the perfect beer to enjoy in the crisp, fall air surrounded by changing leaves. It has subtle but noticeable hints of hazelnut on the aroma to give it a nutty bite mid-taste. This brew is also malt-forward with a smooth, creamy, and medium body. Last, but absolutely not least, our Head Brewer added just enough Fuggle hops at the end to give it a balanced, bitter, and satisfying finish. "We've been trying to get more darker brews in the tanks for the colder weather, and since we hadn't done a Brown Ale in a while, we thought now was the perfect time," says UpCountry Brewing's Head Brewer, James Bertham. "I'm impressed with the way it turned out and may experiment with it a bit more over the next few months. Tell everyone to stay tuned!" Clocking in at 5.2% ABV and 25 IBU, this beer has only been in our taprooms for a few weeks and is already a customer favorite. Let us know what YOU think! Stop by our Asheville or Brevard taproom and ask a beer-tender for our newest Brown Ale. Cheers, The UpCountry Brewing Team

Transylvania NAACP: Our Helping Hand Nonprofit for November

We're excited to announce that our Helping Hand nonprofit feature for the month of November at UpCountry Brewing Asheville, UpCountry Brewing Brevard, and Grata Pizzeria is the Transylvania chapter of NAACP!

Before we dive into how incredible of a group this is, here's a reminder of what our Helping Hand campaign is:

In order to elevate our community support to the next level, we are creating a new monthly program called UpCo/Grata Helping Hand. (UpCo for UPcountry COmmunity. Grata for GRATEFUL.) Here's how it will work: UpCo/Grata Helping Hand will operate in both the West Asheville and Brevard taprooms. Each month we will choose a cause or organization to support. Throughout that month, we will donate a portion of our sales from all three of our business avenues to the nonprofit. We will also encourage/accept direct donations. Now, let's talk about November's Helping Hand campaign, the Transylvania County NAACP:

The Transylvania County branch of the NAACP was founded in 2014. Their mission embraces protecting the political, educational, social and economic rights of all – people of color, women, immigrants, workers, LGBTQ people, voters, children and more.

Since 1909, NAACP has been a leader in the fight against racism and for equality and justice. Early campaigns were around the hate crime of lynching and racist depictions of African-Americans in film and theater.  Current struggles are to secure voting rightsenact criminal justice reform and protect Black lives. Working to realize the vision of a society in which all individuals have equal rights. Today, the NAACP is bringing together lifelong residents and newcomers of every background, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity in pursuit of that mission. Their commitments include:

    • Ensuring the equality of all citizens
    • Elimination of racial prejudice and discrimination
    • Defense and expansion of civil rights laws
    • Full respect for the constitutional rights of all who live in the community
    • Expand environmental justice, to minimize impact on public health of poor communities and people of color

A Message from the staff at Transylvania County NAACP:
We are raising our voices and we will be heard!
Through our work, we have a built a strong platform from which to speak to local and state officials in the discussion of all these issues. Whether you are a lifelong activist, or newly inspired by recent events to speak out against injustice and for equality, there is room for you in the Transylvania NAACP.

If you are local and wish to attend one of our Moral Mondays - where we play music, pray, and fight for justice (rain or shine!), please join us in front of the Brevard Courthouse every Monday at 5PM.

We at UpCountry Brewing and Grata Pizzeria are very grateful to support such an incredible fight for human rights. To take part, please visit one of our locations and ask a beer-tender about Helping Hand.

Sippin' on Ginger Juice - Our New Brew with Devil's Foot Beverage Company!

We are so excited to release our newest brew in partnership with our friends at Devil's Foot Beverage Company - Sippin' On Ginger Juice! This hard ginger seltzer is now on tap at both of our taprooms in Asheville and Brevard. We're also please to announce that this brew will be canned in the late spring/early summer, so make sure you keep your eye out!

Sippin' On Ginger Juice is a laid back 4% ABV hard ginger seltzer. Developed in partnership with Asheville's own Devil's Foot Beverage Company, this ginger juice combo is a crisp and refreshing alternative for when your mind is on the mountains and the mountains are on your mind. Let us know what you think!

UpCountry's relationship with Devil's Foot goes way back since one of the founders of Devil's Foot, Jacob Baumann, used to be a bartender at UpCountry Brewing. When the opportunty presented itself for a colalboration brew, there was no question that it would be a fun experience.

From Jacob: "John approached us at Devil’s Foot Beverage about collaborating on a hard version of our non-alcoholic ginger beer, and it really just made a lot of sense to us. The fact that we already had a close relationship - I used to be a bartender at UpCountry when it first opened - sealed the deal for us. After some test batching, we found what we think is a sessionable, delicious hard ginger beer that we think will be a perfect addition to the upcoming warmer months."

Keep an eye out for this beer around town, and definitely stay tuned for more collaboration recipes between UpCountry Brewing and Devil's Foot Beverage Company. Cheers!
